With this question in their minds, the Nepalese guide Tshering Lama and his South-Tyrolean colleague Georg Maschler set off for an expedition across the Alps and Himalayas. Who would ever have thought that the Sherpas in the Himalayas make their butter in the same type of tubs, bake the same kind of doughnuts, cover their roofs with wooden shingles and weigh them down with stones such as people do in the Alps. Or that the Tsampa, the national meal in Tibet, is nothing else than a traditional farmer’s meal which was prepared for the farmhands in former times?
