Alpine and foreign cultures “Tibet - Mit Pilgern zum heiligen Berg Kailash”

Alpine and foreign cultures (), Peter Weinert (Deutschland) 44 min

It is a strange task with which a Buddhist monk in Katmandu entrusts the German photographer Dieter Glogowski: he asks him to transport a holy Buddha statue secretly across the Chinese border to West Tibet. Together with a small television team, Glogowski agrees to carry out this task. Since there exists no permit for filming in Tibet, the team disguise themselves as tourists and they film with a small video camera. Ahead of them lies a long, strenuous and dangerous journey to the holiest mountain of the Tibetans, the Kailash. However, the biggest challenge awaits the team, when they think they have reached their goal. After the abbot of the monastery Dirapuk Gompa has pressed the returned statue against his forehead, he asks Glogowski to carry it to a really save placeā€¦ Without knowing whether the strength of the entire team will be sufficient for the ascent above more than 6,000 m, they set off.
