“Das Geheimnis des Andenheilers”
Alpine and foreign cultures (), Richard Ladkani, Thomas Wartmann (Deutschland) 43 min
The Callawaya valley, called „the doctors’ land“, is situated at the edge of civilisation, hidden between the snowy peaks of the Bolivian Andes north of La Paz. Still nowadays the Callawaya are performing their shaman healing practices, travelling across Latin America. Their concept of the world dates back to the pre-Incas times and is based on a mixture of myths, rituals and deep knowledge of the healing qualities of plants, animals and minerals. Aurelio, one of the last healers in the Andes, decides to teach the shaman art to his eldest son Cerilo. Not everybody has the gift to become a Callawaya healer, and for this reason Cerilo will have to take a difficult trip to Machu Picchu in Peru to understand and find out if he belongs to the few chosen.
