Nature and Environment “Die Geschichte der Blumenwiese”

Nature and Environment (), Jan Haft (Deutschland) 43 min

Everyone knows it, everyone loves it: the colourful flower meadow. Many interesting animals live there, some of them under the earth, some in the jungle of stalks and stems. Before Europe’s wild herds of big animals became extinct, aurochs and bisons, rhinos and elephants ensured that extended areas remained free of trees. Today the living space “meadow” depends completely on the people who cultivate the meadows with cattle or with mowers and thus prevent the woods from reconquering the free areas again. A living space which must be destroyed in order to be able to exist.

An ordinary meadow – spectacular pictures. This film shows that one finds in the microcosm of a meadow a rich diversity of outstanding pictures and perspectives, and this is natural history at its best. Every picture in this film is an adventure – even in the final manure-laden parable of the reduction of diversity to monoculture.
