Alpine and foreign cultures “Reinhold Messner in der Mongolei: Bei den Tuwa-Nomaden”

Alpine and foreign cultures (), Elke Werry (Deutschland) 44 min

How do you make a milk schnaps? How do you construct a jurt? How do you capture a wild foal? Reinhold Messner and his 14 year-old son Simon experience the everyday life of nomads in Mongolia. The two South-Tyroleans travel to the High Altai, in the land of Dschingis Khan. The Tuwa live there, a nomad tribe who move around all year through the steppe, together with their horses, yaks, sheep and goats. They speak their own language and they were able to preserve to a great extent their own culture and their Shaman religion. The journey is marked by a deep sympathy for this people, by a curiosity about an original and independent way of life. However, the encounter with the nomads also reveals the other sides of this way of life which has an uncertain future.
