“Three Steps in the Realm of Challenge”

Three generations of climbers, at a hypothetical base camp, share the emotions they have experienced in their solo climbing and talk about the possible evolution of this hard and select discipline. The three protagonists are Swiss: Erhard Loretan, one of the greatest climbers that has climbed all the 14 eight-thousands and some of the highest peaks; Ueli Steck, who is considered among the greatest climbers at the moment both on rock and ice; and Simon Anthamatten, a young promise of Swiss mountaineering, who has already demonstrated his drive and strong personality. They talk about the possible evolution of solo climbing as carried out by Ueli Steck in spring 2005, called the “Khumbu Express Expedition” in the Himalayas.
