Chernobyl, 1986. The inconceivable happened and a nightmare scenario became horrific reality. The reactor block 4 of the Chernobyl atomic power station exploded. In their attempts to contain the disaster, Russian fire fighters were exposed to multiple deadly doses of radioactivity. Three weeks later, almost all of them were dead. The fallout changed Chernobyl and its surroundings into a region which cannot be inhabited. The filmmaker Christoph Boekel spent many years living and working in the Russian Federation. With his work he documents the fate of these people, he interviews eye-witnesses and persons who he knows personally, whose life was changed by this disaster. This moving film is a requiem for the victims and a reminder that it should never be allowed to happen again.
