“Burma All Inclusive”

Roland Wehap 96 min

Thursday, 13. Nov. 2008 from 14:00 in Kammermusiksaal

Burma offers everything which travel agents and their customers dream of: spirituality and the exotic, coupled with a pristine condition and the Asian joie de vivre. All too often, however, mention is not made of the fact that the lion’s share of tourist dollars finds its way into the pockets of precisely those who have taken this country hostage: the generals. They represent a brutal military dictatorship which takes no notice of the result of the last democratic elections, as it continues to hold the winner under house arrest. Not even the Nobel Peace Prize has changed the situation. Through a fictitious “All inclusive-journey” this film sheds light on the country from all possible and impossible perspectives. Western tourist behaviour meets with the harsh reality of everyday Burmese life. The search for the truth is often willingly suppressed: the film brings another take on “All inclusive”.

Lobende Erwähnung 2008

A film that takes a clear stance. It not only describes the situation in Burma but also demonstrates the ambivalence of travelling through such countries; both is done in a most original and self-deprecating way. Very courageous, demanding, multifaceted and truly adventerous!
