The Hirlatz cave is located in the Dachstein massif, it is the second longest cave in Austria and it hosts one of the biggest challenges for speleologists from all over the world: a 270 m high pit. Whenever the wide-spread and extensive tunnels of the Hirlatz cave system were explored, the pit “Sahara” presented an insuperable obstacle. Some experts suspect a passage to a wide, unexplored cave system. Together with a film crew, the Austrian speleologist Peter Seethaler and a research group from England set off to search for a new land inside the mountain.
