The Greina has become a national symbol for the protection and the beauty of nature. In former times, this high plane, as the border region between Grisons and Ticino, has seen many conflicts. Since the 1980ies, when this area was protected against the inundation of an artificial lake, the Greina obtained the reputation of a pristine and unique landscape. More and more hikers come for a visit. It has become an alpine myth, and its future is lively discussed. Once again the old question appears: “To whom does the Greina belong?”
