The Kirghiz Bachit lives on traditional pasture management. The pastures around the villages are all cropped after the winter, and the animals have to be led to a new land. Therefore, every year in May, Bachit drives together his herds of cows, sheep, horses and yaks, in order to lead them to the summer pasture, located at an altitude of 3.000m. Thanks to the global warming, also the high alpine pastures are green. On their journey, they have to cross the extremely dangerous torrential mountain rivers, whose water masses are increasing year per year due to the rapidly melting glaciers. For Bachit, the nomad life pursuant to the Kirghiz traditions pays off. He sees the climate changes as a chance, and has become a wealthy man. However, he is also asking himself, which consequences will the progressive melting of the glaciers bring in the future?
