1st Afghan Ski Challenge

Bamiyan is located 200 km in the west of Kabul, on a high plane, surrounded by 5000 m high mountains. These mountains as well as the presence of international armed forces have protected the population against war and the Taliban during the last 10 years. Thanks to the initiative of two Swiss journalists, who themselves are enthusiastic mountaineers and skiers, one tried to organize the first Afghanistan ski race in Bamiyan, in springtime 2011. However, the preparations are not running without difficulties. Nevertheless, at the end, twelve highly motivated young men, who had learned skiing only during the last two weeks, gather at the start. They provide sportive and amusing news from Afghanistan - which let us for a short moment forget the usual head lines coming from this country.
