Trou de Fer – The Iron Hole

“Trou de Fer” translates as “Iron Hole”. It’s a unique and spectacular natural phenomenon located on the island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean. Thanks to the volcanic activity the ground here slumped into enormous depths and persistent rainfalls formed an art piece: one of the most exciting canyons in the world. Thanks to its inaccessibility the nature in this region has preserved in its wildest form. Only few people have ever seen the inside of the canyon. The greatest danger is the water, which swells within seconds here in the rainiest place on earth.
