“Der König der Berge – Hermann Buhl und der Nanga Parbat”
Alpine Documentation (), Lutz Maurer 41 min
Shown on the 50th anniversary of the first ascent of the Nanga Parbat by Hermann Buhl from Innsbruck, Tyrol, this documentary begins with the tragic alpine history of the 1930s and the numerous unsuccessful and victim-filled German-Austrian expeditions, thus demonstrating the high achievement of Hermann Buhl’s first ascent. With the help of historic films and interviews with living members of the successful expedition and with Hermann Buhl’s widow and his expedition partners from the first ascent of Broad Peak in 1957, this film provides a portrait of the Nanga Parbat, the king of mountains, as well as of an extraordinary alpinist.
