“Rätsel der Berge, Mont Blanc – Gefahr im Gletscher”
Nature and Environment (), Liesl Clark (Deutschland/USA) 43 min
The most interesting topic for the members of this scientific expedition on Mont Blanc is the “new danger” in the glacier. The densely populated valleys in the Alps are endangered by a natural disaster, which was completely unknown until now. Because the phenomena of the so-called “poches d’eau” – giant lakes of melt water inside the glaciers that slowly move down and can burst out all of a sudden – are almost not explored. There is only one single case documented in Europe: at the foot of Mont Blanc, the greatest natural disaster in the Alpine region took place, which until today remained almost unknown.
