“Auf Andi Heckmairs Spuren – Mit dem Mountainbike über die Alpen”
Alpine Documentation (), Sigi Menzel 43 min
The mountain bike was hardly “invented” when the mountain guide Andi Heckmair from the Bavarian Allgäu region developed the idea to search for a route to traverse the Alps on the bicycle. It was out of the question that the starting point was Oberstdorf and the attractive goal would be Riva on Lake Garda. The route should directly follow the “way of the swallows”, without any compromises. Close to the projected ideal line, 450 km, 11,500 m in altitude and 11 passes have to be surmounted. Riding, pushing and carrying. Whoever has made it to Riva can look back on more than just physical pain.
