“Zoé – Die letzten Lippenpflockindianer Brasiliens”
Alpine and foreign cultures (), Karin Gerber, Roland Garve 15 min
There are only 184 Zoé Indians left who live at the headwaters of the Rio Cuminapanema in Brazil. The special characteristic of their appearance is a peg of white wood in their lower lip. This practice seems cruel to us; however, for the Zoé Indians this is vital, because only those who wear this lip peg are accepted as a member of the tribe.
