“In the land of Djinns”
Adventure (), Jean – Gabriel Leynaud 52 min
Régis Belleville, a young man of 34, has just succeeded in hiking up to 1150 km across one of the most arid deserts of the planet. Between Chinguetti, Mauritania and Tombouctou, Mali, the desert of deserts, the “Majâbat al-Koubrâ”, was never crossed in its whole length on foot. Regarded as a cursed territory, the legendary land was inhabited by the Djinns. In Arabic, the name means “expanse of great solitude”. It is a land where in the memory of the ancient, those who ventured there never returned. He left Chinguetti in the company of eight camels only and a camel driver. During their 1150-km long trek across the desert of dunes of sand, there was not a single well or water hole to be found. They lived in total autonomy and had to face an extremely hostile environment.
