“Conflict Tiger”

Sasha Snow (Gro) - 62 min

Saturday, 10. Nov. 2007 from 09:00 in Stefaniensaal

In the forests of the Russian Far East, an inexperienced and foolhardy poacher triggers an infamous series of tiger attacks on people. The authorities call upon the services of Yuri Trush, a specialist in tracking and eliminating tigers that have lost their fear of man. ‘Conflict Tiger’ takes Yuri’s most notorious pursuit of a ‘man-eating’ tiger as the basis for a documentary thriller. From the aftermath of this epic confrontation, the film emerges as a parable which challenges the cosy illusions of the traditional ‘big cat’ natural history by setting the animal’s precarious situation against the pressing needs of human survival.

Awards

Kamera Alpin in Gold 2007

The production of nature films has always been a wide field and the “makers” always had rather different visions. Either they live their passion by simply watching the animals, or they press nature paradises into much too narrow film scripts or they consider their work simply as a business. Films which truly promote the preservation of nature unfortunately have become rare. A production based on a script without any flat pretentions, showing sensitive pictures filmed under difficult circumstances and with the aim to help a heavily threatened species truly deserves a price. Therefore we would like to award the “Kamera Alpin in Gold” in the Category ”Nature and environment” to Sasha Snow for his film “Conflict Tiger”.
