It is the holiest mountain among the eight-thousand metre peaks, but also the most dangerous: 40 of the 190 couragous mountaineers climbing the Kangchendzonga in the north east of Nepal have lost their lives. In May 2006, the Austrian Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner sets off to climb the 8,596 metre high mountain. Together with her partner, the German Ralf Dujmovits, she wants to reach the summit without the help of oxygen and fixed ropes. She has already climbed eight 8,000m-summits in this way. The camera accompanies the 37- year-old extreme mountaineer up to the summit regions of the Kangchendzonga, it documents the breath-taking strains and shows landscapes never seen before. Will Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner reach her goal?
