“Magische Welten: Shangri-La - Spurensuche in Tibet”

Dirk Pohlmann (Deutschland) - 44 min

Saturday, 10. Nov. 2007 from 08:00 in Grüner Saal

An ancient myth, a submerged city, an unknown culture: together with a television crew, the adventurer Bruno Baumann looks for the legendary Shangri La in the mountain desert of Tibet. According to the myth, Shangri La was a kind of paradise in the Himalayas where Buddhist monks preserved the spiritual treasures of manhood. The team heads towards the border area with Kashmir, which has been barred from civilisation by the Chinese for decades, moving forward on foot, with off-road cars and, on the wild waters of the Sutlej, with rubber dinghies. They discover a true archaeological sensation: the ruins of a submerged culture, which for a long time only existed as a myth. The legendary silver castle in the Garuda valley and the king’s residence of the mythical Shang-Shung Realm are no fairy tale but reality!
