“Der Große Arber – König des Bayerischen Waldes”

Jürgen Eichinger (Deutschland) - 43 min

Thursday, 08. Nov. 2007 from 14:00 in Congress Graz - Blauer Salon

With its altitude of 1456 m, the “Große Arber” is considered to be the “King of the Bavarian Wood”. Unfortunately today the “tortured” king would be a more fitting name, because no other mountain in the Bavarian Wood is as exploited by skiing slopes, cable-cars and ski-lifts, by forest roads, radar plants and other technical facilities and above all by the enormous masses of visitors. However, apart from the tourist turbulences, there can be found another Arber, lonesome and quiet, a place which despite all human impacts has remained an extremely precious, irreplaceable living space. This intricate documentary observes the extraordinary fauna and flora of this mountain throughout all seasons. Three nature reserves offer shelter for beavers, woodpeckers, owls and lynx.
