In 1954, on January 11, an avalanche in Blons, in the Austrian Province of Vorarlberg, caused the death of 57 persons. This disaster had a deeper impact on the life of people living in areas endangered by avalanches than the catastrophe of Galtür. Avalanche barriers, tunnels and galleries were built in order to protect the population. The filmmaker Malte Roeper talked to contemporary witnesses, discovered original material which was thought to have been lost and visited the Bschlabertal valley in Tyrol, which is cut off from the world by avalanches every winter.
