Das Herz von Borneo

The third biggest island on earth gives home to some particularly fascinating animals. However, the situation for the Borneo orang-utans, the Borneo pygmy elephants, proboscis monkeys and the hornbills is serious. On Borneo, huge surfaces of rain forests are destroyed every hour, in order to exploit tropic timber or to cultivate oil palms. This mono-culture already covers a surface as big as Switzerland. With their three nation project “Heart of Borneo” Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei want to preserve the green heart of the island from the complete collapse, with the help of a network of protection areas, sustainably cultivated “green corridors” and buffer zones.
