Description
The Swiss Manuel Bauer is an expert of the Tibetan culture and he became famous as the personal photographer of the Dalai Lama. When in summer 2010 he landed in Leh, the capital of Ladakh, he found the whole region drowned by a recent huge flood wave. Bauer spontaneously helps a friend by shooting some pictures for the donators of an aid convoy and by documenting the places of worst destruction. Only then he continues his journey to the Nubra valley, via the highest drivable pass on earth. The photographer is moving in areas which are very familiar to him, and in the Diskit monastery he is allowed to participate in two very rare ceremonies: in a two day long fire puja, and in a ceremony where monks return a precious hand-made sand mandala to mother nature.
