Description
In the north east of the Tibetan highland, at an altitude of approximately 3200 metre, one can find one of the holiest places of Buddhism, the „Blue Lake“ as it is called by the Tibetan, the Mongols and the Chinese in their languages. It is one of the biggest salt lakes on earth and the largest inland lake of China. Even holier than the lake itself is the mythic island “Haixinchan” with its convent in the middle of the Qinghai Hu. The lake is also a nature paradise, as it is located on an important route of migrant birds. In spring and in autumn, hundreds of thousands of water birds make a rest here. On the pastures around the lake the traditional tents of Tibetan nomads are built.
