- A knaggy nature boy with a felt hat and a mountaineer shirt, this is the picture of Luis Trenker, who died in 1990, that we still have in our memories. In the interwar period this director and actor has marked the genre of mountain film. His films attracted masses into the cinemas; they also fascinated Hitler and Mussolini. After the Second World War, however, the South Tyrolean preferred to present himself as an opponent of the regime. Reporting anecdotes in his lively style, he spoke about his life in the television, in a fascinating, funny and completely uncritical way. Today, his letters to the elite of the NS and the testimony of the historians and companions reveal a different picture. This documentary drafts the work of a legendary person, who, from the beginning, has created and developed his own image for the ensuing ages.
