- Skyrunning – speed climbing in the highest mountains on earth – is one of the most recent disciplines of modern, high-skill alpinism. In summer 2003, the Austrian Christian Stangl attempted to run to the top of as many summits higher than 6,000 metres as possible in the Andes of South America. In March 2003, he ran up the 6,962 metre Aconcagua from the base camp to the summit in only a few hours… a thrilling feat.
