Description
By the end of January, 1999, after six days of a frozen ordeal, the gendarmes alpin of PGHM of Chamonix pick up at the edge of a glacier of Mont Blanc two men who arrived from Scotland a few days before: one is frozen to death, the other undergoes severe frost bites. At the Chamonix Hospital, where the intensive care team is specialized in frost bites, the verdict is to amputate Jamie Andrew of both hands and feet. This young mountaineer is loosing what helped him to win his personal feat. Given with an iron will, used to overcome his fears, he gets over the ordeal. Equiped with feet prothesis, he relearns to walk and to use his arm stumps like hands: Jamie is his old self again. He then begins his sport rehabilitation, gives time to the technology of his prothesis and then organizes a charity walking to the top of Ben Nevis, the highest summit in Scotland. He kept in touch with the Chamonix Hospital Team, and with the doctor Cauchy. He organizes his own coming back to Mont Blanc, to high mountain. His wish, he will accomplish it in memory of his dead friend. And becomes the first quadriamputated to come back to Mont Blanc and climb it.
