Description
The mountaineer Patrick Berhault set out from Slovenia on 26 August 2000 and reached the beach at Menton on 9 February 2001. The figures alone testify to the scale of the undertaking – 167 days of all-out effort, almost 25,000 kilometres on foot or on a mountain bike, an elevation gain of 141,683 metres, and above all, 22,280 metres of rock face and 22 famous peaks. Patrick Berhault travelled and climbed either on his own or in the company of other well-known mountaineers, including Patrick Edlinger, Tomas Humar, Patrick Gabarrou and Philippe Magnin. His achievement will go down in the history of alpinism as a rarity. In a period of 25 weeks, he climbed a succession of famous rock faces and classical routes, with the energetic humility and simplicity typical of the truly great. Much as others visit one historical monument after another, Berhault visited the greatest routes in the Dolomites, the Eiger, Grandes Jorasses, the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Meije, Monte Viso and all the way down south to Corno Stella.
