Description
The Appalachians are an ancient chain of mountains that run right down the eastern side of the North American continent. This film focuses on the southern Appalachians, which were formed 250 million years ago, when Africa collided with North America. Appalachia today is a unique place, a rich natural history combined with a distinctive human culture. Originally, these southern mountains were the heartland of one of the biggest tribes of Indians in North America – the Cherokee – and this film looks at the nature of the southern Appalachians partly through their eyes.
