Description
One of Austria’s biologically most interesting waters, the “black pond”, is located in Carinthia, in the Lavant Valley. This pond is a former basalt quarry that has been filled with water. In this strange, almost eerie landscape, animals such as water insects, toads, salamanders and frogs have been able to develop to an extraordinary size, which is a rather unexplainable phenomena. The film also shows how other “forgotten” landscapes, which had been “exploited”, later serve as a reservoir and living space for endangered animal species.
