- We, three film makers and our assistant have come to a wild forest to seize never before seen images of the behaviour of foxes. We accepted this very special mission from Luc Jacquet, the director of “The March of the Penguins.” He is shooting a new film, a beautiful fable about a little girl and a fox. In five months, his crew will be here. We must be ready. I travelled across Europe for two months. I roamed the mountains from Norway to Romania, already imagining foxes crossing the landscapes I encountered. But everywhere I looked, the foxes have been hunted since ancient times. They were too few or too wild for such an ambitious film. And then a miracle happened. I found the forest of my dreams in the Italian Abruzzi region, frequented by lynx, bears and wolves. The foxes, protected for over a hundred years, lived there in great numbers. In all the villages, people told stories of the familiar foxes. This is where we had to shoot.
