- “The K2 had become our dream mountain”, says Kurt Diemberger, the only living man who achieved two first ascents on two eight thousand meter peaks, the Broad Peak and the Dhaulagiri. In the year 1983, he set off, together with his companion Julie Tullis, to attempt the K2 for the second time. This time, they intend to climb the mountain on the Chinese side, via the north ridge, exactly on the same route, where Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner succeeded in reaching the summit in August 2011. And the film camera was already with them, in 1983. Kurt Diemberger presents a short summery of the ascent of 28 years ago, when the “highest film team of the world” had to turn back, at an altitude of approximately 8.000 m, due to a weather front.
