The Reichraminger Hintergebirge is not a “spectacular” landscape. During the last centuries it has only changed little and with its extended, jungle-like forest areas it offers an image which in former times was quite common in Central Europe. Nowadays, this mostly unknown mountain area in the south east of Upper Austria is the largest and almost completely deserted forest region in the Northern limestone Alps. A ranger of the national park, a dairy-maid, a forester and a biologist give us an insight into an almost forgotten world, the Reichraminger Hintergebirge.
