In 1999, best friends Alex Lowe and Conrad Anker were overcome by an avalanche while climbing in the Tibetan Himalaya, only Conrad survived. Conrad suffered terribly from Survivor's Guilt and in comforting one another, he and Alex's widow, Jennifer, unexpectedly found love. Alex’s death was a small tragedy compared to what the Sherpa families suffered regularly. More Sherpas die while climbing than any other ethnic group or nationality. To honor Alex’s name, Conrad and Jennifer try to find meaning beyond tragedy with a mountaineering safety school for Sherpas.
