“Les frères Ravier - L'aventure Pyrénéenne”

Maryse Bergonzat (Frankreich) - 52 min

Thursday, 13. Nov. 2008 from 14:00 in Grüner Saal

The twin brothers Ravier, born in 1933, were quite reckless climbers. Without ever having been taught how to tie a Bulin knot, without ever having drilled holes into rock faces, they have opened almost all classical routes in the Pyrenees. With few materials, the rope looped around their waists, belayed only with the help of some crown knots, they achieved - from the 1950ies to the middle of the 1970ies- more than 200 first ascents in the whole mountain range. They “solved” the last “problems” of the Pyrenees: coveted summits, overhangs, and other psychological barriers which had held even the best predecessors at a bay. The Ravier brothers opened new routes, in the well explored mountain massifs as well as in the remote valleys of the Pyrenees. They are living witnesses of the “Pyreneism”.
