“Joao Garcia – sur la route des 14”

Johan Perrier (Frankreich) - 60 min

Thursday, 13. Nov. 2008 from 14:00 in Grüner Saal

Pakistan 2007, at the foot of the 8611-metre K2, the Portuguese mountaineer Joao Garcia attempts his 9th 8000. This is time for him to go back on his various ascents of the Himalayan giants: Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri, Everest, Gasherbrum 1 and 2, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, Shishapangma. He lived magic moments at the summits, either alone or with friends. The worst moment which has deeply marked him was when he was forced to bivouac at 8500m on Everest 1999. Joao Garcia reports us a single testimony of the fate of a man who has a goal, the climb of 14 eight thousands. The motives of such a challenge, the ethics used to get there, the sponsorship and the controversy in the use of oxygen, it provides a vision without the fireworks of mountaineering and includes Portugal in the world of the very small group of high altitude climbers.
