“Postbote im Himalaya”

Ines Possemeyer (Deutschland) - 52 min

Thursday, 13. Nov. 2008 from 14:00 in Congress Graz - Blauer Salon

„Never marry someone from Dankhar“, people in the Himalayas say, „up there, life is too hard“. At an altitude of 4.000m the village Dankhar majestically overlooks the Spiti valley. Here, in the wasteland near the Indian border to Tibet, the postman and farmer Dilip Kumar lives with his wife and six daughters. Every day he has to descend on the steep 10 km long paths down to the valley where the post office is located. This region often is afflicted by heavy landslides, which cut the village off the postal traffic for weeks. The same happens this summer, and for Dulip Kumar things are even worse: he fears that he will not succeed in seeing the Dali Lama who is visiting this area in a few days. The film crew accompanies Dilip Kumar and his family through the hard but sometimes also funny every-day life in the Himalayas, in a remote region where many Tibetan traditions have been conserved.
