“Ayu Lhamo - Die Schamanin vom Dach der Welt”

Fritz Baumann (Deutschland) - 45 min

Thursday, 13. Nov. 2008 from 14:00 in Congress Graz - Blauer Salon

Since China’s occupation of Tibet, Ladakh, the „Land of the High Passes“ in the north of India has remained the last refuge of the Tibetan high culture. In the village Saboo the 82 –year old shaman Ayu Lhamo lives, a legendary oracle healer. During the spiritual ceremonies Ayu Lhamo puts herself into trance. In this condition she speaks the languages of the Lhas, the beings who possess her, in languages she has never learned. The camera observes Ayu Lhamo during her daily séances and accompanies her on her adventurous journey to her grand-son, across the Himalayas to Dharamsala, where her grand-son, as a reincarnation, undergoes an education to become a Rimpoche. This film provides an intimate insight into the prehistoric spiritual world of the shamans, who have assisted human beings throughout thousands of years as helpers and healers, consultants, therapists and as a social institution.
