“Karearea: The Pine Falcon”

Sandy Crichton (Neuseeland) - 49 min

Friday, 14. Nov. 2008 from 13:00 in Congress Graz - Blauer Salon

George Chance spent the 1970's becoming the most accomplished photographer of the New Zealand Falcon; now some thirty years later he is suffering from ill health and going blind. Filmmaker Sandy Crichton, looking for advice on how to film this most charismatic of birds, approaches George. In return for his help the filmmaker promises to realise George's dream by adding movement to his photographs. The film follows a remarkable wild population of falcons that have altered their behaviour to take advantage of commercial pine plantations in New Zealand. Featuring never-seen-before behavioural footage and filmed over three breeding seasons, the filmmaker gets ever closer to the falcons as he attempts to deliver his side of the bargain.
