Description
It is winter and a quartet of renowned Swiss alpinists has set off for Patagonia. The famous alpinist, adventurer and outdoor photographer Thomas Ulrich tells about this journey as if he were reading a diary. The top climbers have one of the most legendary routes of alpine history as their goal: the so-called “Maestri-Egger” route on the Cerro Torre. This route was first opened in 1959. Toni Egger, the rope partner of the legendary Cesare Maestri – one of the most brilliant personalities of Italian alpinism – lost his life on this descent. Ever since, many climbers have tried this route, but without success. Until today, no one has ever succeeded in repeating the ascent of this wild ice and granite needle, causing doubt about the first ascent in certain circles. The four protagonists, Thomas Ulrich, David Fasel, Michal Pitelka and Stephan Siegrist, have undertaken several successful Patagonia expeditions both in winter and in summer and they accept the challenge of the “Maestri-Egger” route... This film is an homage not only to friendship, to laughter and to the beauty of nature, but also to the unique – which is often not the climbing itself!
