- Description
- Chris Hatherly and Tim Cope undertake a journey on their bicycles across a forbidden land that had always been a myth: Siberia. On bikes they traverse the tundra, the dense Taiga forest and finally the Gobi desert on the high Mongolian plateau ending in Tianmen Square. The goal could not have been more out of reach for two 20-year-old Australians: 11,000 kilometres in 13 months. “You won’t make it more than a hundred kilometres without being robbed”, a Russian friend kindly told them. What he did not tell them was that they would be showered with hospitality… This is neither a story only about cycling nor merely travel. It is not only a voyage of discovery about the world beyond local shores but also a journey of personal growth.

Off the Rails succeeds in giving you the feeling to take personally part in the bike tour through Siberia, Mongolia and China. In every way this is a great adventure of the two Australians Chris Hatherly and Tim Cope. In a very personal way we not only get to know unexplored landscapes, foreign cultures and exotic ways of living, but also the personalities of two outstanding people.
