Description
The island of Taiwan has always known a varied natural history, it has constantly been hit by the stormy and capricious China Sea and regularly shaken by the highly active geological fault. Here, the continental shelves have lifted the highest peaks of Southeast Asia, where tropical storms pour quantities of rain accumulating several meters within a few hours. In addition to the earthquakes and typhoons, the island has known a fast human settlement and industrialisation. A surprisingly rich fauna has managed to survive, however, in the difficult-to-access mountain regions in the centre of the island.
