Description
Every year around Easter time, the European hare is for a short time the centre of interest as a symbol of fertility. Hardly any other European wild animal is as popular as “Long Ear”. However, the hare is often made fun of and condemned, and very often it is mixed up with the rabbit. It has been in the focus of former god worship and witch cults; sometimes it has been a symbol for eroticism or fertility, an art object and a scaredy-cat. The trace of the hare leads from the breathtaking buck fights on the fields to the scientific laboratories. Old myths and new knowledge make this animal even more fascinating, although the relationship of mankind and hare is as forked as the hare’s upper lip.
