“Zum Dritten Pol – Teil 2: Norman Dyhrenfurth”

Andreas Nickel, Jürgen Czwienk (Deutschland) - 44 min

Thursday, 08. Nov. 2007 from 19:30 in Stefaniensaal

Norman Dyhrenfurth, the son of the Himalaya pioneers and filmmakers Prof. Dr. Günter and Hettie Dyhrenfurth, follows the footsteps of his parents and, between 1952 and 1986, he participates in seven large expeditions to the Himalayas. Most of the time he is the expedition leader and he is always the cameraman or film producer. The first American ascent on Everest, on a new route – via the Hornbein-Couloir – in 1963 is the highlight in Dyhrenfurth’s career as an expedition leader. This is the first traverse of an 8,000 m peak and also the first film shot on the summit of Mount Everest, and Dyhrenfurth is honoured for it by the American president J. F. Kennedy. „Zum Dritten Pol“ shows a unique material of the Dyhrenfurth -archive. Interviews with Professor Norman Dyhrenfurth and the legendary mountaineers Reinhold Messner and Sir Chris Bonington lead through the thrilling story of these forgotten heroes.
