Description
Children songs prove the prominence of this colourful bird as well as the old Greek comedies, where it is even considered as the „King of the Birds“. The hoopoe is a remarkably beautiful, mystic, even exotic seeming bird with a spectacular flight and a fascinating behaviour. The distinctive hoopoe has become a threatened species all over Europe, its population is very regressive – except in Spain, and on the Austrian Wagram hills! Thanks to ambitious nature protection measures, nowadays one can find considerable 88 broods with 266 young birds in the small viticultural region Wagram. No other European region could develop a similar growth and density of a hoopoe population.
