Jamling Tenzing is the son of the famous Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, who was the first human to reach the summit of Mount Everest together with Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953. Throughout his presentation, Jamling interweaves the little known story of his father’s Tenzing Norgay historic first ascent, and shows how the mountain has changed in the past half century — and how it hasn’t. In 1996, Jamling Tenzing gets the chance to climb Mount Everest as a protagonist in the IMAX documentary “Everest”. During their climb the IMAX filming team explore the natural and human events that lead to the loss of 8 climbers in one storm. In April 2014, 16 sherpas died in an avalanche while they were fixing ropes in the Khumbu Icefall for the Everest climbing season. This tragedy sparked wild unrest within the Sherpa community and they refused to work on Everest for the remainder of 2014 as a mark of respect for the victims. In his presentation, Jamling brings to life a profound and compelling adventure, interweaving the lives of a family, a mountain and a people, and of climbers facing nearly insurmountable obstacles. It is a story of disaster, triumph, professionalism and the resilience of the human spirit.
