Mountains mean adventure, destiny, and drama, especially on the screen. The famous Austrian actor Harald Krassnitzer visits the locations of classic mountain films and re-experiences quasi the film-shooting of the past. In the “White Hell of Piz Palu” he climbs into a crevasse on the Piz Palu, where 80 years before a camera man was abseiled with a wooden camera weighing 110 pounds, and where he has to struggle. On the summits of the Tyrolean Northern Mountains, the protagonist of “Geierwally” in 1956, Barbara Rütting, sits in front of the original “Geierwally” hut, remembering how the vulture in the film had pulled her hair out. On the Matterhorn, Krassnitzer climbs on the rock faces, where Luis Trenker once had filmed his actors for “The Mountain Calls”, but where also he himself had climbed. How could the film teams at that time manage to shoot such scenes?
