This episode of the series „The Six Big North Faces of the Alps“, accompanies the young mountain guide Michael Lerjen from Zermatt and his Argentinian roped-partner on their attempt to climb the demanding Gogna Route in the north face of the Matterhorn for the first time in one day. In addition to this attempt, the film relates, as well, the story of the pioneer events on the Matterhorn north face, such as the first ascent by the Schmidt brothers, the first winter solo ascent of a new route by Walter Bonatti, and the keen solos of Catherine Destivelle and Ueli Steck. At the end it turns out, that although the skills and the equipment have improved, it is the mountain which has the final word.
